A trip around the world is something most of us dream about, but not that many people end up doing it in the end. There is always some excuse stopping them from going. However, if you really want to travel the world, you can make it happen! A round the world ticket (RTW) is a good option for anyone who wants to stay on the road for about one year. The idea is that you buy one ticket, which then allows you to take a number of flights while the ticket is valid (usually during one year).
If you buy a RTW ticket, you can travel pretty much anywhere. Some people choose to see some more popular tourist destinations, some end up to some more distant locations, some have a mixture of everything. You can also choose to use all the legs you have, or take fewer flights and spend more time in each destination. Different RTW tickets have different rules, so it is a good idea to do some reading and comparing before actually buying a ticket.
Prepare your trip well. At least think about these things before buying your RTW ticket:
- How big is your travel budget?
- Where are you planning to go?
- For how long you are planning to travel?
- How much planning you want to do? You can choose a trip you plan yourself or go for one of tickets with complete itineraries.
When planning your itinerary, use the planning tools provided by some airline alliances. It is a lot of fun to look at all the possibilities and plan your trip. If the ticket regulations stop you from going somewhere you originally planned to, see if you can find another way to go to that destination or just choose another place to visit. One trip around the world will not be enough to see everything there is to see, so missing one destination just means that you will see some other place instead!
