If you are looking to get away to some place tropical without as many hassles as the more well known and populated tourist traps, you may want to consider Negril, Jamaica. Since the early to mid 1970’s, Negril has been one of the more beautiful places to visit. With a nearly five-mile long beach, oddly named “Seven Mile beach,” and a mixture of larger all-inclusive resorts as well as smaller family-run hotels this scenic location at the western tip of Jamaica is sure to have something for everyone.
Despite a history of famous visitors, Negril is a down to earth location for the casual vacationer providing the true feel of “vacation” with its view of the blue sea and stretch of white sand beach. Just off shore is a large protected reef system with the coral being replenished by the adjacent marshland providing an abundance of opportunity for snorkeling or scuba diving through the crystal clear waters. The cliff jumping at Rick’s Café is awe-inspiring, making Rick’s one of the locations listed as a must-see during your lifetime. Many tours are available for Negril and other outlying areas, or you can simply wander through on your own enjoying this location dubbed the “Capitol of Casual.”
There are many restaurants and clubs for your evening enjoyment. Locations such as Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville and Ciao Jamaica Negril Restaurant are a couple of the more well known establishments, but there are also many more located in and about the resorts at the north end of the beach. The recommended locations are those with a clear view of the western horizon as the breathtaking sunsets are reminiscent of those written in novels. However, anywhere you go is sure to be an excellent experience as the hospitality and carefree atmosphere Jamaica offers clearly demonstrates why visitors return time and again.
